INDIAN RIVER COUNTY SCHOOLS The School Board of Indian River County is made up of a committee of five elected representatives from the community to serve four-year terms. The Superintendent of Schools is appointed by the Board. The Indian River County School District supports 26 public schools with more than 17,000 students enrolled. Of these 25 schools, 14 are elementary schools, 3 are middle schools, 2 are high schools, and 3 special schools. In addition to these schools, the District also gives oversight to 4 charter schools. Vero Beach Schools Vero Beach schools maintain a rich tradition of excellence in providing its students with academic programs and at the same time providing for a safe learning environment. These schools strive to nurture the students' diverse talents, interests, and abilities as they are being prepared to face the challenges of ever-changing communities. Parent and Teacher Involvement The PTA as an organization is very supportive of the students and faculty and thus is a strong advocate for the students’ educational process. There is a lot of parent volunteerism going on in the schools that is both welcomed and encouraged by the school staff. Parents report that they feel extremely welcome and that the level of parent involvement is infectious. ABC Schools
The 2006 Florida Legislature created A Business-Community (ABC) School Program to encourage the formation of partnerships between business and education. One intention was to reduce school and classroom overcrowding throughout the state and to offset the high costs of school construction. ABC Schools are public schools that offer classroom instruction to students from kindergarten through third grade at business sites. The school board provides the appropriate staff, textbooks, materials, supplies and the host business provides the appropriate space for operating the school. Priority for enrollment is given to the children of the owners and employees of the host business.
