Sebastian FL is located in what is known as the Treasure Coast, about midway between Melbourne and Vero Beach in Indian River County, and about a hundred miles from Orlando, FL. It is also home to Pelican Island which is the first designated wildlife refuge in the US.
First incorporated as the “Town of Sebastian” in 1924 and reincorporated in 1925 by the state legislature, the city has experienced rapid growth over the past several years and has a current population of approximately 20,000. Some of the things that make Sebastian so attractive to visitors and new residents are its beautiful parks, its public and private education, its year-round tropical climate, and of course, its close proximity to the Atlantic beaches.
Though this city is small, it still offers the accessibility of many conveniences and amenities. It is a great place for the water enthusiast who can enjoy a variety of watersports, and there are plenty of activities of other kinds in the area as well.
Sebastian is one of Florida’s premiere saltwater recreational fishing areas, as well as offering excellent bass fishing. In addition to the fishing, it is also a great place for surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, or just relaxing on the beaches. Golfers will find plenty of opportunities to take in a few holes, and there are State and County Parks to explore as well.
