The Treasure Coast gets it's name from a number of Spanish galleons carrying valuables and gold, which were shipwrecked off shore during the 17th and 18th century. These ships were primarily those of the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet. Artifacts from these wrecks are still being recovered today by amateur and professional treasure seekers.
