Vero Beach FL - Things To Do

Thousands of visitors to the Vero Beach area, as well as it's residents, are able to enjoy many recreational activities, community events, and entertainment in this tropical paradise.  Whether you enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beach, kayaking on the Indian River, surfing, watching the dolphins and manatees, taking a chartered fishing trip, or playing golf on one of many world class courses, the choice is yours.

If you enjoy plays and concerts, the Vero Beach Theatre Guild and The Riverside Theatre offer many performances by professionals and non-professionals. Hundreds of people attend the art exhibits under the Oaks at Riverside Park, as well as The Vero Beach Museum of Art.  The Vero Beach Museum of Art is a modern 55,000 sq.ft. building, which in addition to hosting many art exhibits, is the largest private art school associated with a museum in the state of Florida.

For history buffs, the Vero Beach Train Station, built in 1903, is the current location of the Indian River County Historical Society. It is a good place to begin a historic tour of the town and the many sites which have been preserved.  Another point of interest is found at Humiston Park, where a marker gives the account of an 1894 sunken ship, the Breconshire.  The Hallstrom House is a 1918 pineapple and citrus plantation, which offers a glimpse into the early agricultural society of the area.

The Environmental Learning Center, located just west of Disney's Vero Beach Resort, offers a hands-on approach to investigating the environment.  It features a walk-through forest, a butterfly garden, and more.

For the golf enthusiast, there are many challenging public and private golf courses in Vero Beach and the surrounding area. The PGA has a training facility and several courses in Port St. Lucie, which is about 30 min. away. In Vero Beach, The Hawk’s Nest is a private club, with a championship par 72, 18-hole course.  This course lies on one of the highest elevations in southeast Florida and offers spectacular views. Another private club, Quail Valley, offers a unique golfing experience.  This course has rolling fairways and more than 60 acres of waterways to add to it's challenging course.  Windsor, a private club, designed by Bobby Trent Jones, Jr., is located in a gated community of homes on the Barrier Island. It lies between the Indian River to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had their Spring training camp in Vero Beach for over 50 years, but have decided to relocate their Spring training closer to LA. Vero Beach is currently in negotiations with another national team, to make Vero Beach, the new location of their Spring training camp.

The New York Mets have their Spring training camp in Port St. Lucie West, which is about 30 min. South , just off I-95.
